Ohio House District 87 includes Morrow County, Crawford County, Wyandot County and rural parts of Marion County.

My name is Lora Covrett. I’m on the ballot this November! Thank you to everyone who wrote my name in on their primary ballots.
The number of votes to win in November is about 26,000 based on past year’s turnout. No Democrat has ever gotten anywhere near that number of votes in this district. We are gonna change that this year. Wanna help? Contact Covrett for Ohio 87 Campaign
I live in southern Morrow County. I enjoy the quiet peacefulness of rural life and I especially love how neighbors in my community will drop everything to help each other—whether it be in Waldo, Bucyrus, Galion, Mount Gilead, Upper Sandusky, New Bloomington, La Rue, Crestline, Nevada, or Marengo—neighbors help neighbors in our district.
When an interstate threatens our homes, everyone in our community comes together to fight it. I will show up and fight every day to make the voices of everyone in District 87 heard in Columbus.
I have spent over 20 years working in technology. My career has been built on implementing award-winning workflow and document management systems. I deal with complex data all day, every day.
The future of our state will be defined by how we handle emerging technology, infrastructure, and digital security. No other candidate in this race is better equipped to navigate these technical challenges. For years, I’ve helped corporations save millions by implementing smarter, more efficient, data-driven processes. Now, I want to use those same skills to save you money by bringing that efficiency to the Statehouse.
Why am I running?
My bills are going up and my family’s healthcare benefits are shrinking while the GOP-led Ohio legislature keeps giving tax cuts to corporations and ignoring everyday working people like you and me. I believe a representative’s job is to prioritize the people’s interests above their own. Our interests must align on the things that matter most: accountability, efficiency, and ensuring our rural communities aren’t left behind in a changing world.
The Issues That Matter
US 23-71 Bypass

One of my top priorities is stopping the proposed US 23-71 bypass. Our homes, multi-generational farms, and open spaces are not “empty land” waiting to be developed—they are the backbone of our community and our economy.
Delaware County’s traffic problems should not be solved by destroying Morrow County’s way of life. There are smarter, more efficient infrastructure alternatives that don’t involve seizing family land through eminent domain. I am more than happy to work with neighboring districts to find technical solutions that work for them within their own borders. #accountability
Data Centers and Energy Costs

As an IT professional with 20 years in the field, I understand the value of technology—but I also know when to call BS. Right now, Ohio is handing out millions in tax breaks to massive data centers while they strain our electric grid and drive up water and energy bills for the rest of us.
I am calling for an end to these “data center tax holidays.” If these corporations want to tap into our resources, they should pay their fair share, not foot the bill to the families of District 87.
My plan to bring your utility bills down is trifold:
Accountability: End the subsidies and ensure data centers pay for the infrastructure upgrades they require.
Energy Independence: We need to diversify our energy portfolio—including responsible wind and solar projects—to lower costs and increase local supply.
End New Data Center projects until they can prove that the facility won’t damage our environment and won’t cost the taxpayers money. #nomoredatacenters

Property Taxes

I don’t support abolishing property taxes without a real plan to protect homeowners, renters, and our public schools. If property taxes disappear, the legislature will face enormous financial challenges — and our current representatives have shown little urgency in addressing the burden families are already carrying. If elected, I will work toward practical, affordable solutions that fund our schools without emptying our bank accounts. It’s time for some fresh eyes — someone who can offer new ideas instead of building on the same broken framework. #fundourschools
Safe Housing for Vulnerable Adults

My mom is a retired senior who lost her home because her landlord failed to maintain the property. It became unsafe so she now lives with me.
Laws already exist to protect people in situations like this — but for many seniors, those protections are ineffective in the real world.
I want to close the loopholes that allow negligent landlords to avoid accountability and create a state-level Senior Housing Advocate — expanded to assist all vulnerable residents — so people can get help without needing a lawyer or fearing retaliation. #seniorhousingadvocate
Cheaper Prescription Drug Costs

My mom has faced extensive health issues in recent years. I help manage her medical bills and prescriptions, and I drive her to appointments. Even with Medicare, her prescription costs can still reach hundreds of dollars every month.
Ohio has made some progress by requiring Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) to be licensed and disclose pricing practices. But transparency alone does not save you money.
I support requiring PBMs to pass negotiated discounts directly to consumers at the pharmacy counter instead of pocketing that money.
I will do everything I can at the state level to help lower prescription drug costs for all Ohio families. #lowerprescriptiondrugcost
Fundamental Rights

And I will continue to defend our fundamental rights—protecting women’s healthcare, supporting the LGBTQ+ community, helping those less fortunate, and ensuring safety from gun violence. #healthandsafetyalwayscomesfirst
